late spring at the botanical gardens

Yesterday, Ella requested that we take a trip to the Zilker Botanical Gardens after school. Our last visit was in winter - and she wanted to see the roses in bloom. Clarissa agreed that we should spend our afternoon at the "mechanical garden." The girls had a wonderful time following the paths through wilderness and brambles, keeping an eye out for fairies, crossing the perilous stepping stones together - Clarissa even took a plunge from her stepping stone into the stream once, but Ella pulled her out, wrung out her skirt, and beckoned her over the foot bridge and on to another adventure.

While they whispered to each other about the secret messages the fairies had hidden for them, I was busy snapping photos. I reckon this does not surprise you. Above are a few of my favorites - all pink, probably also not a surprise. I can't believe spring is already beginning to wane here in Austin - ever so gradually. I hope you've also been having some sweet outdoor adventures and enjoying the spring.

Today, we are going to visit the mall for new spring sandals and new eyeglasses for Miss Ella. A horse of an entirely different color! I doubt I will come home with any good photos, but I think we will have fun all the same.

Best, Tracy
